Adopt a Dog
Our goal is to find dogs their new forever home and we will go to
great lengths to accomplish this as we are truly dedicated to these
animals.
PLEASE READ THIS PAGE AND UNDERSTAND COMPLETELY BEFORE
SUBMITTING AN ADOPTION APPLICATION:

VACCINATION / HEALTH RECORDS ARE  PROVIDED WITH EVERY ADOPTED DOG!

All of the dogs in rescue have been saved from unfortunate situations that are no fault of their own.
Some are saved from puppymills and deplorable living conditions loaded with parasites, some are
saved from high kill shelters, some are found as strays, some are owner surrendered after their
owners were unable to keep them for various reasons, and some were just abandoned like unwanted
garbage on the street.  Because of our proximity to the Amish puppymills, we receive many purebred
puppies into rescue.  As the animal rights organizations shut these puppymills down, all of those dogs
and puppies go to rescues to find homes.  Unfortunately, as fast as they get shut down they just reopen
a few months later breeding something else and then the battle begins all over again.  Most of the time
these puppies are sick and we work very hard to get them well so that by the time you see them on the
website, they are happy, healthy dogs and puppies.  The adoption fees are our ONLY source of
income for the rescue and many times it doesn't begin to cover all of the rescue's expenses.   It is
more than just food.  It is vet bills, necessary medicines and special prescription food, surgeries,
bowls, toys, dog houses, crates, bleach, kennels and concrete, tarps - the list is endless!  We are also
planning to have a new heated building built this year.  Adoption fees go towards the care of
ALL of
the dogs in rescue, not just that particular dog you may be adopting.  Some dogs' expenses go well
over their adoption fee if a special surgery is required to fix a birth defect for example but hopefully
what one dog doesn't use another one will.

Either way, these dogs and puppies need loving homes and a new chance at a good life.  Please
consider adopting a rescue dog, regardless of whether it is one of ours or not.  There are many dogs
in great need everywhere!  The health card reflects care and vaccinations obtained in rescue unless
otherwise stated as these are
rescue dogs/puppies and no past history is known therefore no
guarantee is stated or implied
.

ADOPTION PROCESS:  If you are interested in adopting a dog, please read our terms first before
completing the application.
Submission of an application means that you understand and
accept our terms.
Once fully understood, then fill out the application and send it either as an email
attachment or you can copy and paste it into the body of an email.

If you have been approved for adoption, an appointment will be made for you to meet the pet that you
are interested in.  Please be on time for the appointment and call if you are going to be late or need to
cancel.

After meeting you and after you have had an opportunity to meet the pet, we reserve the right to deny
any pending adoption should we feel it is not a good match.  Our goal is to place our dogs in the best
possible homes.  You are never obligated to adopt a pet if after meeting the dog, you decide it is not
the right choice for you and your family.  An
adoption contract is required for all adoptions (see
below).

The dogs that are up for adoption are being fostered at our home as a member of our family while
waiting for their new forever home.  You will have an appointment time set for you to come and meet
your potential pet so please be on time for your appointment.

SPECIAL NOTE:  A submitted application or an approved application does not guarantee adoption
of a dog from A1 K9 Rescue.  Do not expect that a particular dog will be held for you simply because
you have expressed interest and/or submitted an application.  We reserve the right to adopt a dog to
whomever we feel is best suited for that particular dog.  Also, dogs are
not held for anyone without a
deposit.  In other words, if you have been approved to adopt a particular dog but you are unable to
pick them up promptly, the dog will not be held for you unless you place a deposit which will then hold
the dog for 7 days.  That should be plenty of time for you to arrange pick up of your new pet.  If you
have been approved for a particular dog and you choose
not to place a deposit, DO NOT expect
them to be held for you because they won't.  The dog may or may not be available by the time it is
convenient for you to pick them up.   We will allow the dog to be adopted to another approved home in
the meantime so please be sure you understand this completely.

Also please understand that while we do our best to be sure a dog is parasite free, with so many new
dogs coming into rescue with parasites that are highly contagious, occasionally one will get by us or
require a second treatment.  When you go to your first vet appointment, please be sure to take in a
stool sample for testing just to be sure.  Severe diarrhea is a common symptom of coccidia which is
an intestinal parasite that requires an antibiotic called Albon.  Coccidia has reached near epidemic
proportions in our area therefore we treat every dog for this as prevention but often times it requires a
second round of Albon so if your dog has continued diarrhea, it could just be stress/change of diet or it
could be coccidia which is why we suggest taking in a stool sample on your first visit.  Unless your dog
has been dewormed within 24 hours of leaving the rescue, they will automatically be sent home with
their next dose of deworming meds to be given just as prevention in 1-2 weeks.

REDUCED SPAY/NEUTER:  Friends of Animals offers reduced spaying and neutering certificates
accepted by veterinarians nationwide.  These are the
exact same certificates that we use to spay and
neuter the dogs in rescue.  The cost is $64 for a male and $90 for a female.  You can obtain a list of
participating veterinarians in your area and also conveniently purchase the certificates online (or by
phone) by visiting their website at
http://www.friendsofanimals.org/programs/spay-neuter/index.html
Depending on your location, you may be able to find it even cheaper by searching low cost spay and
neuter for your county or state on the internet.  Some places offer the service for $30-$40 if you are
fortunate enough to have one in your area.  We are not so lucky to live in such an area.  You can also
search the ASPCA's low cost spay/neuter provider database for your area as well.

IMPORTANT PAYMENT INFORMATION - PLEASE READ:

PAYMENT:  Payment can be made by cash, money order, cashiers check or credit card via a
secure paypal transaction (you do NOT need to have a paypal account.)
We do NOT accept
personal checks.

IMPORTANT CHANGE REGARDING PAYMENT:  Due to problems with paypal placing holds
on payments that are being made from my laptop, we can no longer accept credit card
payments at the time of pick up.  Paypal payments (i.e. credit cards) will be accepted for
deposits ONLY.  The balance of the adoption fee can be made by cash or money order at the
time of pick up.  If you want to use a credit card for the final balance, this will have to be done
PRIOR to picking up the dog so that it can be made from your own computer.  For whatever
reason, some payments are getting flagged and a hold placed and it is always the ones that
are made from my laptop here on site so I can no longer offer this.  I sincerely apologize for
the inconvenience.  Please let me know if this is your intention so that arrangements can be
made BEFORE you pick up the dog.

RETURNING A DOG:   Adoption fees are nonrefundable.  In the event a dog just doesn't work out,
you are welcome to return the dog for rehoming but please understand that no refund will be given.
Please understand this prior to adopting.  If this is not acceptable to you, then please do not adopt
from us.  Adoption fees are crucial to the operation of the rescue and when a dog is returned, they
continue to incur expenses here in rescue until a new home can be found.  This is particularly true in
the case of a puppy.  Puppies may require spaying or neutering by the time a new home is found thus
incurring large expenses for the rescue.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for considering our rescue
dogs.

Please know what the adoption fee is BEFORE you submit an application.  Please also
understand that an approved application is just the
FIRST STEP and I reserve the right
to deny an applicant if after meeting them, I deam the adoption is not a good match.
Meeting the adopter in person is the best way to determine a good match.
