This is a new page that we have started of a few before and after pictures. Many of the dogs that come into
rescue are severely neglected and many are from puppymills. The neglect that we see is just unbelievable. This
page will be a work in progress and I will continue to add to it in order to keep you updated on some of the dogs
that people ask about most often. I have so many to add so please check it often and I will update it as I can.
I also would like to thank each and every one of you who have inquired about these precious souls. These little
angels are the reason why we do what we do in an effort to give them a second chance at a good life. For all of
you out there who have saved a rescue dog and given them another chance at happiness, "THANK YOU!".
Please note that some of these pictures are graphic and if this disturbs you, then you may not wish to proceed.

Saki is a purebred Akita rescued from the pound. When we pulled him, he was just 74 lbs and you could see every rib and vertebrae. He also had a severe case of
kennel cough. He was aggressive and starving and hard to deal with. It was a long process but this boy flourished here in rescue and weighed about 100 lbs when he
was adopted. He was no longer aggressive and loved to play with the other big dogs in rescue. He LOVES people, including children. He is the sweetest boy ever
and an absolutely gorgeous dog. He learned basic commands like sit, shake and wait and learned to walk nicely on a leash.
UPDATE: Saki has been adopted and is really happy in his new home. He now has a big yard to safely run in and kids to play with. They tell me he is
doing just great.
This little fella has had an unbelievable start in life. Not only did he end up in rescue, but he was then abused by his adopter's boyfriend and came back into rescue
almost dead. It took us several weeks to nurse him back to health after being kicked in which he sustained severe trauma to his abdomen. I spent an unbelievable
amount of time and money nursing this pup back to health. This puppy left rescue perfectly healthy and was vet checked the day before he was picked up only to be
returned four days later in the condition that you see in the photos. He DID survive and is now back to being in good health and is back to his happy playful self.
Below is what little Aspen looked like when his adopter brought him back to me on a Friday evening (7/18). His heart rate was faint, his gums were white, his body
temperature had dropped dramatically, and he had defecated himself. He was nearly dead. I worked on him for an hour and a half trying to save his life and incurred
emergency vet care costs the following morning (Saturday). By Saturday, his abdomen had begun to show severe bruising and it had filled with fluid. His belly literally
looked like a water balloon. He was having trauma induced seizures which my vet said were a direct result of his abdominal trauma. The vet felt that he had a
ruptured urethra and was urinating into his abdomen for which the only fix was a surgery to remove his penis and leave a hole in his abdomen from which to urinate
through. She said this would cost "oober thousands" and was not actually a feasible course of treatment. She sent him home with syringes of valium to be given rectally
every time he had a seizure and I continued his extensive care at home. He was given until Monday but the vet truly believed he would need to be euthanized on Monday.
His seizures stopped and he continued to hold his own but his prognosis remained guarded. He was not able to eat or drink on his own for five days. I literally kept him
with me 24/7 and fed him every 2 hours around the clock also giving him subcutaneous fluids. Everywhere I went, he went too in his soft carrier. Little by little, the fluid in
his abdomen began to reabsorb and he began to urinate in a normal fashion. We were then hopeful that his urethra was not actually ruptured, but it was obviously
severely bruised. His seizures completely stopped and he finally began to eat and drink on his own. He gained 2 lbs and gradually regained his strength. For the
longest time he just wasn't the happy pup that he was when he left but this gradually returned and he now is very happy and playful. He loves his treats and has a healthy
appetite. He loves playing with the other dogs and is finally ready for his forever home. He is a WONDERFUL little pup that has beat all the odds.
UPDATE: Many people have inquired about an update on little Aspen. He is doing GREAT! He has now been adopted by a family who totally adores him
and spoils him like crazy! He's their 'baby'. :) Thank you so much for giving this special boy the home he truly deserves!
Poor Chance was pulled from the pound with a severe case of flea dermatitis. He had lost almost all of the hair on his back and what hair he did have, was matted to the
skin. Unfortunately this required us to give him a pretty close haircut but he looks quite appreciative sporting his bandana. :) Chance underwent an intense
reconditioning program and we worked on his skin and coat and general poor health. Through it all though, his amazing disposition was never anything less than
HAPPY. He is just a fabulous dog.
UPDATE: Chance was adopted by a very loving family who totally adore him. They had just lost their precious dog and Chance helped them as much
as they helped him. Chance now has a loving family to call his own and he is working on becoming a therapy dog. He is incredibly happy and no one
could love him more than his new family.

Star and Niko were an owner surrender through our veterinarian. Their owners had brought in five dogs to be euthanized and we were contacted and asked if we would
take in these two purebred Havanese as they were only 2 years old. Of course we said yes! They were in terrible shape, matted all the way to the skin, their nails had
grown around to the pads of their feet, and they had no medical care (vaccinations, etc.). Star cleaned up pretty good without losing too much hair but Niko I'm afraid lost
it all. He got a super short puppy cut. He was so matted that we had to take it off in layers and then just try to even up what he had left. But all in all he was an absolute
gem during the whole process and never complained once.
UPDATE: Star was adopted and went to New Jersey with a wonderful family and she now has a little girl to play with. Niko was adopted by a school
nurse and he is the only "baby" which I'm sure he LOVES.

Vegas is a precious Boston Terrier who suffered from a prolapsed rectum not once, but twice. The first time, our vet said it was the worst she had seen but the second
time was even worse than the first. Poor Vegas had to have two emergency surgeries but thanks to our amazing veterinarian, she is on the road to recovery. The first
surgery was successful in getting the prolapse back inside but the second time proved to be more challenging. On her first attempt, the vet was not able to get the
prolapse back in so they medicated Vegas with morphine and some meds to try to reduce the swelling of the prolapsed, waited awhile for the meds to take effect, and
then tried unsuccessfully once again. They had to open up her abdomen and pull the prolapse from the inside to get it back inside her body. They then tacked the colon to
the abdominal wall in an effort to keep it from reprolapsing. They also spayed her at that time since they were already in there. She was placed on antibiotics and it has
been a long road as she had terrible bloody diarrhea but things are looking up for Vegas. The vet says that she can be adopted in two weeks if she continues to do well.
Update: Vegas has now been adopted to a wonderful couple who will give her lots of love and attention. I will share future updates and pictures as they
become available.
VEGAS HAS HER OWN WEBSITE!!! PLEASE CHECK HER OUT AT OURDOGVEGAS.COM
These photos are from her first prolapse. The second one was worse than the first.

Sam is a 5 year old purebred male wheaten terrier that was rescued from a puppymill. He was used as a breeder and once he became of no use to
them any longer, he was to be destroyed. Sam is a very sweet fella who just wants to be loved. Sam was in pretty bad shape. We originally thought he
was deaf but after vet examination, he was discovered to have an extremely severe infection in both ears. His ears had been so bad for so long that the
skin was actually blackened and calloused. His teeth also had a lot of tartar and he had an abscessed tooth that needed to be extracted. We had him
vaccinated including rabies and bordetella, dewormed, neutered, microchipped, covered for giardia and coccidia, placed on a course of Keflex and
Panalog, got him heartworm tested (which was negative), and had his ears cleaned and examined while he was under anesthesia during two different
surgeries. We also started him on K9 Advantix as the vet recommended year round flea treatment as opposed to seasonal. Sam can definitely hear but
does seem to be hearing impaired to some degree.
The vet said that he has end stage "cauliflower ears". She said his ear problems were caused from either life long ear infections or possible allergies.
He will require life long ear maintenance of cleaning with an ear wash 1-2 times per week. She said his skin was good. We switched Sam over to a
whitefish and sweet potato dog food to hopefully cover him for any allergies.
Sam did very well after his last surgery. When I picked him up, everything had been taken care of and went smoothly. Sam's dental and extraction went
well. He has a couple of stitches that will absorb on their own and his ear recheck was as good as could be expected I think. While his ears will never
be 'good', I think 'fair' is the best we can hope for. She said that she didn't think a course of Prednisone would actually be beneficial at this point so we
are not going to opt for this right now. She said that he will always have the thick, calloused skin which partially obstructs the ear. However, she was
encouraging in that she said she did several swabs and smears and that no gunk was coming out and that smears only showed occasional yeast. She
said he needs to have twice weekly ear cleanings and to stay on the fish/sweet potato diet and to just hope for the best. This is actually very good news
because I was worried she was going to say they were still horrible or infected and recommend the ear canal removal but she did not think we should go
there just yet. She wants to wait and see how he responds to the twice weekly ear cleanings and then go from there. So all in all, I think Sam is at what
will be 'baseline' for him.
Update: Sam was picked up on Christmas Day but is having some adjustment issues in his new home. At this point, we will have to wait
and see if he comes back to rescue.
A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO DONATED TO SAM'S CARE!!! THANK YOU TO THE NATIONAL WHEATEN RESCUE WHO
COVERED SAM'S DENTAL EXTRACTION! YOU ALL HELPED TO MAKE SAM'S RECOVERY A SPEEDY ONE AND I CANNOT THANK YOU
ALL ENOUGH.

Vegas is doing very well and is very happy in her new home. Below are some photos sent in by her new mommy.
PAGE 3 OF UPDATES
Simone is a little schipperke that came into rescue at the age of 5 weeks as an owner surrender with her brother and sister. All had upper respiratory
infections but Simone was hit the hardest and I really didn't think she was going to make it. But after two weeks of subcutaneous fluids, forced feedings
(she was unable to eat or drink on her own for a week), Albuterol breathing treatments, and antibiotics, she finally started improving.
UPDATE: Simone has grown into a gorgeous girl. She has been spayed and has ultimately found a wonderful home.

Willie came in from the Portage County Pound along with 6 other puppies. Some wicked people actually had these 7 babies IN THE TRUNK OF A CAR
and drove from Georgia to Ohio IN THE HEAT. They spent at least 8 hours in the trunk of a car with no food or water. I'm still amazed they even survived
at all. These pups were pulled out of the trunk by the Ohio State Patrol and sent to the pound. Unfortunately, the puppies were severely ill and the pound
could not adopt them out to the public. It was either go to our rescue or be euthanized due to their poor health so we took them in order to give them a
chance. They had mange (scabies), a severe bacterial skin infection, a bad case of worms and were extremely malnourished. There for awhile, I really
didn't think Willie was going to survive but he did and is now looking for his permanent home.
UPDATE: Little Willie has been adopted and is now in a wonderful loving home!!!
