PLEASE NOTE:  NO DOG WILL BE HELD WITHOUT A DEPOSIT.  IF YOU ARE SERIOUS ABOUT
A DOG, I STRONGLY SUGGEST PLACING A DEPOSIT AS THIS WILL BE THE ONLY WAY IT
WILL BE HELD.

Please do your research BEFORE adopting a yorkie.  While they are very cute they are not for the first time
dog owner unless you are truly committed to them.  People always want them super tiny but the tinier they
are, the more fragile they are, and yorkies have a tendency to be finicky eaters especially when they are
puppies.  If you've got a yorkie or other tiny toy breed, you know that Karo syrup is the 'elixir of life' as I call
it.  Please understand this before you adopt a yorkie.  I realize people think they are really fun to dress up
and carry in your purse but they can be very challenging, especially if you have one go on a hunger strike
for no apparent reason.

Hypoglycemia
Low blood sugar in puppies, or transient juvenile hypoglycemia, is caused by fasting (too much time
between meals).  In rare cases hypoglycemia may continue to be a problem in mature, usually very small,
Yorkies. It is often seen in Yorkie puppies at 5 to 16 weeks of age.  Very tiny Yorkie puppies are especially
predisposed to hypoglycemia because a lack of muscle mass makes it difficult to store glucose and regulate
blood sugar.  Factors such as stress, fatigue, a cold environment, poor nutrition, and a change in diet or
feeding schedule may bring on hypoglycemia.  Hypoglycemia causes the puppy to become drowsy, listless
(glassy-eyed), shaky, uncoordinated, since the brain relies on sugar to function. During a hypoglycemic
attack, the puppy usually has very pale or grey gums.  The puppy also may not eat unless force-fed.
Hypoglycemia and dehydration seem to go hand-in-hand, and force-feeding or injecting fluids may also be
necessary. Additionally, a hypoglycemic Yorkie may have a lower than normal body temperature and, in
extreme cases, may have a seizure or go into a coma.  A dog showing symptoms should be given sugar in
the form of corn syrup (Karo) or NutriCal immediately, as prolonged or recurring attacks of hypoglycemia
can permanently damage the dog's brain.  In severe cases it can be fatal.

MEET JENNA & JENNIE!

These two purebred female Yorkshire Terriers came in with a group of dogs rescued from a puppy mill.  They are both
small little females that will not be very big.  Jenna is 6 months old and weighs 3.13 lbs.  Jennie is 10 months old and
weighs 3 lbs.  These petite girls are super sweet - I just love both of them.  They have no problem getting bathed,
brushed or having their nails clipped and both of their nub tails are constantly wiggling.  They both just have super nice
dispositions.  Both girls have been vaccinated including bordetella, microchipped, spayed, and both also had retained
baby teeth pulled at the time they were spayed.  They are
being raised with kids and other pups, and are eating well.
T
hey are eating Diamond Naturals small breed dry puppy food (a holistic diet containing no beef, wheat, corn or soy).

Adoption fee is $650.

Shots include distemper, hepatitis, adeno 2, parainfluenza, parvo and bordetella (kennel cough) and have been
dewormed.

ALL dogs and puppies in our rescue are treated prophylactically for giardia and coccidia because it is such
a huge problem.  They are also treated with flea and tick prevention as well.  These treatments are NOT
cheap but we feel they are important for the well being of the dog.  We also strictly follow the AAHA and
CAPC Shelter Guidelines for vaccinations and parasite control.  Each dog receives a 5 day treatment of
fenbendazole which provides coverage for roundworms, hookworms, and whipworms as well as giardia
(commonly found in pond water).  Each dog is also treated with praziquantel for tapeworms and also
prophylactic treatment for coccidia.  We do everything we can to ensure that the puppies go to their new
homes healthy.

Care package contains his health card documenting care (shots, dewormings, etc.)  as well as Eukanuba puppy food,
and Care/Training Guide.

If you feel that you could offer the loving, nurturing home that they deserve, please fill out an adoption application for
consideration.
