Shipping
SHIPPING:  We offer shipping as a courtesy in
an effort to find our rescues good homes and will
ship a dog to the right person as long as the
person is willing to pay all of the shipping costs.

The shipping cost is $475.*  This includes the air
fare, vet health certificate required by the airline,
airport fees, a new crate, ice pack, water bottle,
kennel cup, towel, and gas.  All shipping and
adoption fees need to be paid
in full prior to
shipping.  (*Please see other option below.)

The airline used is Delta for their Pets First
program which has a temperature controlled
cargo area.  We will gladly provide references
from previous shipments upon request.   Again,
we do this as a courtesy and do not make money
on this service.  However, with the price of gas
now skyrocketing, I do need to have my fuel
costs covered.  I spend a total of 3 hours total
just in travel time to accomplish the trip to the
airport and to the vet to obtain the health
certificate.  I do it because I love these animals
and I want them to have the best possible home
even if it happens to be in another state.  I am
very aware that all good homes aren't
necessarily located in northeast Ohio.

Flights are scheduled Monday through Friday
and I leave for the airport at 3:00 a.m. to arrive at
the airport at 4:30 a.m. so that a dog can leave
on a 6 a.m. flight.  Not all Delta flights are Pets
First flights therefore special scheduling is
required.  Due to many business travelers during
the week, more flight options are available with
very few available on the weekend.

Flight costs have increased dramatically in the
past few months, probably due to the increased
fuel costs.  For example, the LaGuardia, NY flight
increased by $75.  Below is the breakdown of
the LaGuardia flight as an example of costs.
Most other flights are farther and have even
higher costs but we will keep the fee at $475
unless it is an appreciable increase.

Airfare                        $275.00
Health certificate           67.00
Crate                              50.00
Airport fees                    12.00
Gas                                 20.00
Towel, kennel cup,
water bottle, ice pack   25.00

TOTAL:                        $449.00

Sometimes it can be arranged to share a flight
with another individual as often times, two dogs
can fly together in the same crate (depending on
the weight of the dogs), thus allowing the
adopters to split the costs.  I am happy to do this
whenever possible to save people money.

*ANOTHER OPTION:  Many people have
frequent flyer miles and these can be used to
make a quick round trip to pick up a small dog or
puppy.  You would need to schedule a flight to
Akron-Canton airport  and I would meet you at
the airport with the dog and the vet health
certificate required by the airlines.  The cost
would be $67 (the cost of the health certificate)
as opposed to the $475.

A special cabin kennel is required that is
specially designed to fit under the seat and
meets all airline regulations.  You can bring one
with you or I can provide one for an additional
$25 but I would need a few days notice to
accomplish this as I would be purchasing it
online and need enough time for it to be
delivered.  This is an excellent alternative to the
high cost of flying and is also excellent for the
dog because they are in the cabin with you.  By
choosing this option, you also totally avoid any
heat ban restrictions.  Just please be sure to
check with the airline you have chosen to be sure
they allow carry on pets when scheduling your
flight.

PLEASE NOTE:  The heat ban is in effect
from May 15th to Sept. 15th, which means
that a dog will need to be shipped very early
in the morning.  In rare instances, a flight
may not be scheduled to certain
destinations.  I have only had this occur on
one occasion where a flight could not be
scheduled to arrive to a destination before
the heat of the day would be too high,
therefore the transaction was cancelled and
the deposit was refunded in full.  Pugs (and
any other brachycephalic breed) have an
additional heat ban restriction of 70 degrees.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate
to email us.

TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR A
RESPONSIBLE PET OWNER

1. My life is likely to last 10 to 15 years. Any
separation from you will be very painful.

2. Give me time to understand what you
want of me.

3. Place your trust in me—it is crucial for my
well-being.

4. Don’t be angry with me for long, and don’t
lock me up as punishment.
You have your work, your friends, your
entertainment. I HAVE ONLY YOU!

5. Talk to me. Even if I don’t understand your
words, I understand your
voice when it’s speaking to me.

6. Be aware that however you treat me, I’LL
NEVER forget it.

7. Before you hit me, remember that I have
teeth that could easily crush
the bones in your hand, but I choose not to
bite you.

8. Before you scold me for being lazy or
uncooperative, ask yourself if something
might be bothering me. Perhaps I’m not
getting the right food, I’ve been out in the sun
too long, or my heart may be getting old and
weak.

9. Take care of me when I get old. You, too,
will grow old.

10. Go with me on difficult journeys. Never
say, "I can’t bear to watch it", or "Let it
happen in my absence." Everything is
easier for ME if you are there. Remember, I
LOVE YOU.
